I seem to be in the minority in my appreciation of Mr. Toad as much as Ichabod. Both stories are brilliantly told and Sleepy Hollow is remarkably accurate in it’s storyline given by Disney. The greatest thing about this film is how it doesn’t dumb down the material to reach children. It keeps so much of the great dialogue through the wonderful narration of Crosby and Barrymore. In what other children’s film would you hear…”the schoolmaster possessed a remarkable equinimity that remained quite undisturbed” or “the Tower, grim monument to despair, cruel, foreboding”? Answer, nowhere because Disney didn’t treat the material as kids stuff and in so doing comes off entertaining to all ages. Both stories are loaded with action and humor. Today’s kids’ films should respect their audience half as much.
This dvd has two wonderful cartoon shorts dividing up the story of Mr. Ichabod and Mr. Toad. Mr. Toad winds up on some grand journeys with some great friends, and ends up reclaiming his good name after being framed. Luckily for him, the wonderful friends he has are instrumental in helping him restore his reputation. Mr. Ichabod plays a man full of charm and a love of life that gets along well with others. It is a great cartoon for both adult and kids, but there are certain scenes in the Ichabod cartoon that may be a little on the intense side for some children under 3 years old. What I also like are the bonuses included. One of the bonuses involves playing a game where you must answer questions correctly to get to Toad Hall. If you can answer tham without getting four tires then you can get a nice bonus at the end in the form of another cartoon short. I played the game and thought it was pretty fun, plus the mini cartoon that I got to see as a result of it was pretty creative (a car version of the little engine that could). Watching this dvd is definitely worth it, especially considering the bonuses included.
I’m not the biggest fan of The Wind of the Willows. (I never saw it as a child.) However, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a classic I never get tired of watching each year around Halloween.

I remember watching this as a kid, and I love that my kids can now watch it. Its fun, and my kids can watch it over and over since there are two stories on one DVD.
